On the second of October, 2015, One Health Sweden member Jay Lin (SLU and SVA) defended his thesis entitled Molecular Characterization and Prevalence of Hepatitis E Virus in Swedish Wild Animals - A Zoonotic Perspective.
Twentytwo percent (53 of 245) of the hoofed animals in the study showed signs of viral infection. The animals did not display symptoms but there is a risk of infection being transferred to humans. A novel virus was detected in a sample from a Swedish moose.
More information is available on the SVA website (in Swedish).
